The Andaman Islands: Important Things To Know Before Travelling

Yes, this is India! The crystal clear white sand blue beaches resemble and are not less beautiful than the Maldives and Thailand beaches. Andaman is the heaven of India! It is one of the best travel destinations to visit before you die. ‘Blue Flagged’ Radhanagar Beach with a tag of Clean, Green & Safe. Other white sand blue beaches-Havelock Island, Ross Island, Jolly Buoy Island, and many more. The list is long.
Andaman is a two-hour distance away from Chennai, India by air transport. Among the eight Union Territories of India, it is one of them. It has a total, of 572 number of Islands in which Havelock Island is the most visited and favorite Island. Port Blair is the capital city of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
But before planning and packing your bags for this journey, you should definitely know five suggestions which are given below as per our experiences. To make your travel smooth and comfortable.

1. Network Issues

The biggest concern about travelling is the Network. As you’re going to visit an Island you’re going to face network issues for sure. When we went to the Andaman Islands, we got zero network connectivity which means a total cutoff from social networks! If you need a network, either you could buy their local SIM/Internet or connect it to the hotel’s WiFi. But not all the resorts and hotels had an internet connection. Fortunately, the good news is, that the Prime Minister announced ‘High Speed Broadband Connectivity’ a few months ago.
Which is India’s first undersea optical fiber cable project, connecting Chennai to Port Blair and other Islands of Andaman. It is providing an ultra-fast 4G services in Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Though it has the connectivity, we suggest you take a break from social media and spend some quality time with Nature, in Heaven.

2. Sea Walk Is a Must!

Are you Aquaphobic? If you said yes, then this is a must-try thing to get you out of this phobia. We recommend you all go for a sea walk if you’re aquaphobic like me. Because in this adventure, swimming isn’t compulsory. You’ve got two places to experience it:
1) Elephant Beach, Havelock Island
2) North Bay Island
But we suggest you to go for it wherever you get the chance to do it at first. Because due to high tides, it might remain closed. Also, it’s the only place in India which is providing you with this adventure activity. As per our experience, it’s a completely unique world under the sea. You’ll see varieties of colorful fishes, particularly Finding Nemo’s Clownfish, Starfishes, and other sea animals such as Sea Urchins, Sea Anemones, Sea Cucumbers, and Coral life. That sounds Exciting! Right?
But Beware! Few fishes might kiss your fingers.
Haha! Don’t worry, they aren’t Piranha.

3. Best Time To Visit Andaman Islands

Definitely, Winter Season! The average temperature remains between 22°C-31°C, and the humidity falls down during the month of January and December. To get rid of chills during the winter season and to experience jacket-less weather, this is the best travel choice for your winter vacation. As you have to remove your winter wear after arriving at the airport of Port Blair.

4. Always carry Snacks & Drinking water

You’ll be visiting many small Islands like – Jolly Buoy Island, and Ross Island of 2-3 km small. Many are one or half-day trips from the capital city – Port Blair to different small Islands.
You’ll get only cucumber or sometimes coconut water on those islands. So carry your own eatables but of course, don’t pollute the Andaman Islands. Keep it Clean, Green, and Safe.

5. Trip To Baratang– Andaman Islands

Andaman is home to five Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups(PVTGs). One of them whom we saw was Jarwa Tribes. Who lives in the tropical forest of Baratang.
Your journey will begin at 3:30 AM. Photography is strictly prohibited while entering into the tropical forest of Jarwa Tribes. You can click photos after crossing it. Their protection is necessary due to their decreasing population and no interaction with the mainstream human population.

After crossing the tropical forest you enter the Mangrove forest, and to reach there you have to travel by Ferry, then take a motor boat and a trek of two kilometers to reach your final destination, The Lime Stone Caves. Ergo, do not forget to wear shoes here.
